Tips
- For portrait photos, center the subject first with the Crop tool, then run Circle mode for the cleanest result.
- Setting the rounded-corner slider to 50% on a square image produces a result identical to circle mode. On a rectangle it creates a pill (stadium) shape.
- If you need a white-background circle instead of a transparent one, convert the downloaded PNG to JPEG with the Format Convert tool — the transparent area will be filled white.
- The output is always PNG. If file size matters, run the PNG through the Compress Image tool afterward.
- In circle mode the shorter side determines the crop square, so a landscape photo crops to a square whose side equals its height, and a portrait photo crops to a square whose side equals its width.
- The checkerboard preview background is only for visualizing transparency — the downloaded PNG contains pure transparent pixels, not a checkerboard pattern.
FAQ
Why is the output always PNG?
The area outside the circle or rounded rectangle is transparent. JPEG does not support transparency, so PNG is the only format that can preserve the transparent background. Even if the original is a JPG, it is converted to PNG automatically.
Why is my image cropped in circle mode?
A circle must fit inside a square, so the tool crops the image to a square based on its shorter side, centering the crop, then clips it to a circle. It works best when the subject is in the center of the photo.
What does the rounded-corner slider percentage mean?
The value is a percentage of half the shorter side. For example, on a 100×200 px image at 50%, the radius is 25 px (half of the short side 100 px, times 50%).
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Every step runs entirely inside your browser. Your photos are never sent to any server, so you can safely use personal photos.
Can I use the result directly in Figma or Canva?
